The Nineties
A star is born!
Founder Michael was (is!) obsessed with spirulina's energizing qualities, powering his long days and late nights making maple syrup. This super food -- decades before the term "superfood" was trending -- inspired his first flavor - Carob Spirulina.
Family grows alongside business
The family welcomes their third (and last) child, and the next 4 flavors. All five of us worked together to sort and deliver the product, and test and name new flavors. Chunks of Energy move through our home warehouse to cooperative groceries all over New England.
The New Millenium
Our product line grows
We launch loads of new flavors, inspired by a growing interest in plant-based foods and superfoods. We don't have to explain what spirulina is, quite so much. Most flavors stick around, but some just didn't work out. (RIP Cinnamon Fig & Sesame Crisp!)
Chunks are available coast to coast!
Hard work pays off, and we are now partnering with the biggest natural foods distributor in the USA. You can find Chunks of Energy in all 50 states, and our summer vacations are tours of stores. People we don't know are eating (and loving) them!
The 2010s
New website and new employee
The internet grows and Michael's middle daughter Leah's first big project is a new website. Now fans can buy Chunks of Energy straight from us, at the best prices.
This decade
Chunks of Energy...now in pouches
Based on demand from stores without bulk departments, we launch 7-ounce pouches, which are also certified gluten-free. We started with 5 flavors, and now have 11!
The third generation continues
This story goes on! I need to go to my son's kindergarten graduation so I am leaving it like this for now. Feel free to share where you fit in to the timeline! We have SO much more to add!
